The temple adjoining Konti Gudi on South-West side, known as Surang Gudi

Bagalkot, Aihole
Temples / Bastis

Assignable to the 7th century CE, this temple, standing by the side of the east-facing temple of the group, consists of a pillared hall and a garbhagriha against the back wall of the hall. Here, for the first time, the space within has been enclosed by building a transverse wall with perforate windows and a central entrance. This wall appears to have been added at a later date. The hall is rectangular in plan but the shrine enclosed within the two central pillars is square in shape. The shrine door shows a Garuda holding Nagas on the lintel. The vertical bands on either side fothe door are adorned with creeper motif, erotic couples, etc. Shankhanidhi and Padmanidhi are seen seated below the vertical bands at the extreme end on either side. The shows pillars show kakshasana with a vase and foliage motif.
