The Andu Masjid

Vijayapura
Mosque

The Andu Masjid stands on the east side of the road running from the citadel to the Landa Qassab Bastion of the fort. As per the inscription, the mosque was built by Itibar Khan, a Noble, under Ibrahim Adil Shah-II in 1608 CE. It is a two storeyed building, the upper floor being a prayer chamber, while the ground floor is a hall. The facade of this mosque is made up of three equal sized arches which enhance the general appearance of the monument.   Along the top of the south end of the terrace, is a parapet or screen ‘mihrab’ and a small niche in each of the side bays.  The minars rise from each of the four corners of the roof and also in a group of four, above the ‘mihrab’ at the back.
