Hero Stones (Viragals)

Inscription

There are four hero stones in front of the basti and one more under the tree. Two of them have inscriptions. The inscription dated 1279 CE of Kavadeva’s period, that records the death of SindadaBommeya when VeeraSinganna attacked Sirsi. One more hero stone at the same place and of the same period referes to one Bommaya Nayaka. An old nishidhi stone is installed on a modern tomb, described as of one avadhoota and a small tulasivrindavanawas also raised over it near the basti. There is one more hero stone, belonging to the c. 13th century, near the school at a place called Sidibana which referes to the death of one kamanayaka.
