The King’s Seat

Uttara Kannada
Others

The King’s Seat, located about 100 m west of the siva temple, is a large well polished monolithic square (4m x 4m) slab about 25 cm in thickness. It is resting on four dwarfish pillars about 80cm in hight. The lower half of the pillar is of circular cross section and the upper part is of square shape. Presently the slab is broken almost in north south direction into two halves one is slightly bigger than the other. A fifteen feet massonary pilar is erected at the middle of the slab below in order to avoide collasping. A pyramidal type of slopy roofed sheets structure raised on eight peripheral pillars shelters the King’s seat. The original non-ornate King’s seat dates back to the Sonda period i.e. 16th to 17th century CE, where as the roofing was provided during the British period for protecting the King’s Seat.
